Duke Enlists Tizra To Sell eBooks

Duke University will use Tizra's Agile PDF hosted white label service to repackage, deliver, and sell textbook content in electronic formats.

Duke University Press, the school's publishing arm, produces roughly 120 books a year, placing it in the top 20 university presses, and it's journal program ranks in the top five, offering more than 30 titles.

Leveraging Agile PDF platform, Duke University Press can split its large PDF publications into searchable online publishing offerings. Then, using online tools, Duke can create and manage a storefront branded to the university in order to sell books, chapters, single pages, or compilations of various works. The system supports an array of licensing and pricing models.

Agile PDF also provides Web-based tools that let  non-technical staff at Duke update the storefront's design, content, and sales. Additionally, the interface provides for rapid rollout of test products and pricing models to let Duke fine tune its online publishing business.

"Our readers are a diverse audience of scholars and educated readers. We expect that Tizra's innovative system will over time allow many new readers to discover our content, as well as allow us to deliver new mix-and-match capabilities to those who already view our publications as crucial for research, teaching, and intellectual stimulation," said Duke University Press Director Stephen Cohn, in a prepared statement.
