Pingleton Named CLO at University HealthSystem Consortium

The University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC), a group of 102 academic medical centers, has named Susan K. Pingleton its chief learning officer, a newly created position for overseeing education initiatives and programs.

UHC's chief learning officer will focus on improvements to quality, safety, and performance and will head up UHC educational offerings focused on "helping member academic medical centers effectively use UHC's vast comparative data and improvement resources to achieve clinical, operational, and financial performance excellence."

Said David Burnett, UHC senior vice president, "We are delighted to welcome Dr. Pingleton at a time when academic medical center leaders are looking for innovative programs and proactive support in the use of data and performance improvement methods to help them lead the nation in quality. Her depth of experience as an educator and leader in academic medicine is a perfect blend of practitioner, educator, author and leader in patient quality and safety."

Pingleton was previously the Peter T. Bohan Professor and chair of internal medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and last year was the Petersdorf Scholar in Residence at the Association of American Medical Colleges in Washington, D.C.

"In the past, I have successfully managed the education of medical students, residents and fellows. This new position gives me the unique opportunity to leverage that experience and impact learning in the critical areas of medical leadership and quality improvement in collaboration with academic medical centers across the country," Pingleton said in a statement released Monday.
