U Kentucky Automates Web Performance Management

The University of Kentucky in Lexington has deployed Coradiant TrueSight Automated Incident Management (AIM) to manage the performance of online applications at the university. The purpose of the program is to provide visibility, manage performance, troubleshoot, and plan capacity into the online experience of users using the university's Web applications, which include Blackboard, an SAP NetWeaver portal, Exchange Webmail, and SharePoint.

After exploring several options, the university chose Coradiant's product because it worked directly with Blackboard and was turnkey. "It was extremely easy to get up and running. We literally unpacked the box at noon and were collecting data by 3 p.m.," said Nick McClure, lead systems programmer. "Now if a student or faculty member calls with a problem, we can see exactly what the end user saw, get the data about what they're doing, and provide the information directly to the software vendor. That saves us a lot of time and cost."

The university has 27,000 students.

TrueSight uses customer metrics gathered from each Web user visit as its primary data source for IT management. Other higher ed customers include Columbia College Chicago, University of Texas Arlington, and Clemson University in South Carolina.
