Grambling State Streams Live Internet Broadcast of Tigers Football Game

Grambling State University in Louisiana has begun streaming its football games online with the use of NiFTy Online Broadcasting from Network Foundation Technologies. In the first broadcast, which appeared in real-time on the university's GSU-TV network, the GSU Tigers defeated the Northwestern State Demons 38-17. The event attracted online viewers from 30 states, as well as Germany and the Bahamas. Two-thirds of the viewers were outside of the two schools' home state of Louisiana.

This is the first university deal for the company, according to John Grindley, vice president of sales and acquisitions. Many larger institutions sign licensing deals that encompass all broadcast rights--including Internet-based. In this case, he explained, GSU's broadcasting covered other media but not the online stream.

To watch the event, viewers must download a GSU-TV player, available from Network Foundation, which brands each version of its viewer for the particular organization doing the broadcast.
