North Georgia Moves to Matrix42 Systems Management

North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega has selected Matrix42's Empirum version 12 for software and patch management. The new deployment replaces a legacy collection of manual processes, scripts, and Novell applications. The systems management application will handle deployment, maintenance, and service activities for the university's 2,000 desktop and mobile computers. The university said it believes the change will allow it to eliminate two full-time equivalent positions.

"We spent a good amount of time researching other systems management tools and talking to other university IT departments to find a solution that fit our situation and budget," said Steve McLeod, associate CIO of services for IT. "With Matrix42 we were not only impressed by the professionalism and flexibility of their sales team, but with the ease of use, the customer support staff, and the fact that this is a total solution that includes a backup component."

Empirum provides features for inventory, operating system installation, software management and standardizations, and personal backup. The university will also be using Remote Control, a service that provides users with on-screen assistance from the Help Desk.

"The ability to scale up both on the number of clients and on the number of services offered by Matrix42 was very attractive to us," said CIO Bryson Payne. "Having that single pane of glass to manage is very important when you have a limited staff of technicians and helpdesk support."
