Moberly Area CC Contracts with Pearson for Digital Resources

A Missouri community college system with seven campuses will be offering its 5,000 students the chance to purchase textbooks in digital form, get course help online, and use online reference resources. Moberly Area Community College recently contracted with Pearson Learning Solutions to provide access to multiple online services to its students and faculty.

The college currently uses the Pearson LearningStudio platform in its online courses, which provides threaded discussion, online journals, lecture delivery, e-mail, and homework management.

Under the latest agreement, Moberly's students will be able to choose course materials from Pearson content, including e-books and "a la carte" customized print books. They'll also have access to Pearson's MyLabsPlus online homework and tutorial programs, mySearchLab for research paper work, and SourceCheck for plagiarism checking. Under the agreement, faculty will also have access to SourceCheck.

For plagiarism checking faculty can submit an unlimited number of papers to SourceCheck, a product from Ephorus that Pearson resells; students can submit up to seven papers each semester to SourceCheck through mySearchLab to identify possible plagiarism before submitting course papers to their instructors.

"Our partnership with Pearson provides us with a pathway to widespread ebook usage on our campuses while providing our students with a variety of options for how they want to interact with course content," said Michele McCall, dean of Off-Campus Programs and Instructional Technology. "This ensures our students will have access to the type of content that best aligns with their unique learning styles now and well into the future."
