Recording Arts School Adds TV Production Curriculum
The Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences (CRAS), an audio recording, engineering, and production school located in Phoenix, AZ, recently expanded its Master Recording Program to include a focus in broadcast production audio. The course aims to give students real-world experience in music recording, film sound mixing, concert support, and producing video coverage of live events.
To support the added focus, the institution has acquired four GY-HM600 ProHD camcorders from JVC. CRAS plans to use the cameras in its control room and production trailer.
"We built a broadcast production facility with a basic switching system for the purpose of teaching how audio integrates into television production," said Robert Brock, director, CRAS Digital Department, in a prepared statement from JVC.
Faculty members have been test driving the new cameras -- filming interviews and guest speakers -- in preparation of the new program. Students will get their first opportunity to use the cameras when the course begins October 25
"We’re not teaching video production, but the creation of multimedia content is part of what schools need to do," explained Brock. "It exposes our students to a real broadcast environment and the bigger picture of what broadcast television is all about. These skills will apply to a number of employment opportunities."
