UNC Rolling Out Online Ed.D. Program
The University of North Carolina at Greensboro is launching an online doctoral program in kinesiology (the study of human movement).
The four-year (48-credit hour) program is designed for professionals in the field who are seeking an advanced degree (in this case an Ed.D.). The program is almost entirely online, though students are required to make three in-personal visits to the campus (first for orientation, later for oral exams and defense of dissertation).
According to the university: "Online courses will be taught by faculty members widely recognized as innovative teachers and accomplished scholars in the areas of human movement and physical activity. Examples include two professors inducted into the National Academy of Kinesiology this year for their significant contributions to the field: Sandy Shultz, Ph.D., department head, and Jenny Etnier, Ph.D., graduate director."
"We're now offering working professionals the opportunity to enroll in a highly regarded program previously available only to on-campus students," said Pam Kocher Brown, UNC Greensboro professor of kinesiology and lead designer of the online program, in a prepared statement. "They will have a chance to benefit from broad, interdisciplinary courses that focus on the practical application of scholarship in the workplace."
The program will kick off next year.
