American University Revamps Communication School, Adds High Tech AV Suite

A new collaboration with Sony is bringing high-definition broadcast equipment like business projectors and studio cameras to American University’s Media Innovation Lab, as part of an overhaul of the AU School of Communication.
As part of the department’s recent upgrade and consolidation, it shrunk its presence from six spaces across campus into one. The centerpiece is the newly restored McKinley Building, which is now equipped with theaters for general lecture hall presentations as well as 10 interactive classrooms, six computer labs, and both live event and video production studios. A series of events featuring guest speakers, including cinematographer Claudio Miranda, kicked off the building’s opening.
The new equipment installed at the school includes:
- VPL-FH500L commercial installation projectors;
- SRX-T615 professional 4K projector;
- PMW-320 XDCAM EX camcorder;
- MVS-3000 production switcher;
- HD production displays and monitors; and
- Wireless microphone systems.
"American University is positioning itself at the forefront of technology and education," said Theresa Alesso, vice president of business-to-business applications at Sony Electronics’ Professional Solutions of America group in a statement. "Having access to state-of-the-art HD production equipment--the same equipment used by professionals today--makes the students’ educational experience more dynamic and relevant. We are excited and proud to be working with American University as they continue to develop the careers of media professionals."
