Destination Imagination, Berkeley Life Sciences Team up on STEAM Ed

Destination Imagination (DI) and Berkeley Life Sciences have teamed up in an effort to promote science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) education.

Destination Imagination is a nonprofit organization that seeks to advance STEAM concepts and social entrepreneurship through its challenge program for students in K-12 and higher ed. Berkeley Life Sciences is a company that focuses "on insurance solutions for the life science industry," according to a news release.

As part of the new partnership, Berkeley Life Sciences has launched a new company-wide initiative encouraging employees to volunteer their time working on DI-related activities, including mentoring local student teams or working at the Global Finals. The company may also offer students who pass through the DI program internship opportunities.

"When we learned more about how DI is helping to teach students many of the key skills necessary to successfully support our customers, skills such as creative thinking, respect for others and their ideas and collaborative problem solving, we were eager to partner with them," said Jill Wadlund, president of Berkley Life Sciences, in a prepared statement. "Their efforts very much align with our organization's ongoing commitment to learning new skills and enhancing our knowledge base. We are excited about the positive impact and important contribution our employees will be making through their support of DI initiatives."
