MIT Gets Bundle To Research Brains, Minds, and Machines

MIT has just received a five-year, $25 million grant specifically to study how human intelligence emerges from brain activity. The National Science Foundation made the award to fund creation of a multi-institutional research facility called the Center for Brains, Minds and Machines.

University of California, Riverside is receiving about $2 million to support efforts to retain students in science, technology, engineering, and math, especially underrepresented students. Student Underwater Robotics Competition Promotes STEM Learning

More than 50 student teams participated in the 12th-annual MATE international student underwater robotics competition, which challenged students to design and build a remotely operated underwater vehicle that can "deploy scientific instruments and remove biofouling organisms from existing equipment installed on the seafloor, among other tasks.
