GPM Deploys Emergency Communications System

Georgia Perimeter College has deployed new communications systems from Cistera Networks for public safety and quality assurance: Event and Alerting Notification (EAN) and Quality Assurance and Compliance (QAC).

EAN is a campus communications and emergency alert tool that also has the ability to link public safety organizations for inter-agency communications. QAC is a tool for recording communications for later retrieval for both training and liability purposes.

“Public safety is among the highest priorities for our institution, and we feel very much at ease with Cistera’s application services especially because Cistera has the only IP solution that can provide multimodal communications,” said Chris Burge, IT consultant with Georgia Perimeter College, in a statement released this week at the Educause conference in Seattle.  “Cistera’s multimodal capability is a lifeline to each building and it’s the best way to relay important information quickly to a large population over a wide geography.  Our campuses are safer with this technology.”

The college is using several of the capabilities of EAN and QAC, including RapidBroadcast, an enterprise-level mass-communication system; CallCenterRecord, which provides call recording and playback; and QuickRecord, which is used for recording communications on the fly.

Georgia Perimeter College is part of the University System of Georgia. The third-largest institution in that system, the college serves about 22,000 students and employs 3,000 faculty and staff on various campuses around Atlanta.
