Hebrew University Deploys New Search Solution for Library Users
Hebrew University of Jerusalem is implementing a new customized research service for its library users. Called HU Find, the service has been designed to conduct searches across numerous databases as well as the library's catalog with a single search function.
HU Find was built on the EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) platform. The university wanted a discovery service that would provide a one-stop search solution for students, according to Edith Falk, chief librarian at the institution. The new system includes a custom index of the university's information resources, which can be searched from a single search box.
"We were looking for a single search solution that would help students get the articles they wanted without having to use several databases," said Falk in a prepared statement from EBSCO, "and we also hoped that the service would help get more access to the library collection."
When students conduct a search, Falk explained, they receive results from the library's catalog and EDS. "We have one search box, which searches both the catalogue and EDS at the same time," said Falk. "The results are presented in two columns: Books and more – which then goes to our catalogue; Articles and more which goes to EDS."
Hebrew University of Jerusalem serves more than 22,000 across three campuses. The public institution's main campus is located in Mount Scopus.
