Syracuse Revamps Online Accounting Program

Syracuse University is working with a higher education service provider to update its existing online master's in accounting program. Accounting@Syracuse will use the university's admissions standards, faculty and curriculum and 2U's online course delivery platform, recruiting and marketing services.

This is the second program 2U will offer through Syracuse's Martin J. Whitman School of Management, which also delivers MBA@Syracuse. 2U is also working with the institution's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications to launch a new master's program there as well. That's expected to launch in 2015.

The accounting degree will have three sequences: one for students with a bachelor's degree in accounting, which will take 30 credits; another with students who have a degree in business, which will require 42 credits; and a third for students who are new to accounting altogether and will take 48 credits. The program will be open to students from around the world.

Courses will have live, weekly, face-to-face sessions taught by Syracuse U professors, as well as videos, quizzes, learning modules and other interactive multimedia developed by Whitman faculty and 2U's instructional designers. The course materials and classes will run on mobile platforms.

"Accounting professionals are in demand across nearly all industries and business environments, and the newly enhanced... offering further ensures that the Whitman school will remain in the forefront of enabling students to pursue these rewarding career opportunities," said Kenneth Kavajecz, dean of the School of Management. "By partnering with 2U to deliver Accounting@Syracuse, we will further enhance the online learning experience and access to a high-quality academic offering for a range of accounting and business professionals regardless of where they are located."

The first cohort will start in July 2015.
