High Point U Deploys Touch Free Transcript Delivery

High Point University in High Point, NC recently implemented a new technology that fully automates the delivery of student transcripts.

The technology is now available in a partnership between the National Student Clearinghouse, a nonprofit that facilitates higher education verifications and electronic education record exchanges, and educational software developer Ellucian.

Called Ellucian eTranscripts, the technology eliminates any kind of manual intervention and, according to officials at National Student Clearinghouse, can electronically deliver transcripts in an average of less than 15 minutes and, in some cases, as little as five minutes.

"This makes students, as well as receiving institutions, happy," said High Point University Registrar Daniel K. Brooks. "Whether it's applying for a job, a promotion or graduate school, eTranscripts gives us that competitive edge that our students and alums are accustomed to."

eTranscripts works by creating a secure interface between Clearinghouse and the institution's Ellucian administrative system. It is available at no charge to Ellucian customers that participate in Clearinghouse Transcript OrderingSM. According to Ellucian Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer Mark Jones, about 2,400 institutions around the world that now use an Ellucian system have access to eTranscripts.

"Our partnership with the National Student Clearinghouse demonstrates our commitment to help colleges and universities operate more efficiently," Jones said.

Among those institutions that have signed on for eTranscripts are Amarillo College, Brown University, Emporia State University and the University of Great Falls.

Brown University Registrar Robert Fitzgerald said the "touch-free" system has saved his university both time and money.

"We've taken out the staff middleman and the time component association with that part of the equation," Fitzgerald said.
