Toshiba Ships Combo Projector/Document Camera

Toshiba this week announced its new TDP-SC35U, a single-chip DLP projector that also includes a detachable document camera. The new model, designed for education and conference room applications, is available now for $899.
The TDP-SC35U is an SVGA (800 x 600) single-chip DLP model offering a brightness of 2,000 ANSI lumens and a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. But it also includes an integrated document camera (648 x 486 resolution) with a swing-out arm. It can capture and display transparencies, documents, 3D objects and live presentations and display those images through the projector. The camera can also be detached for further flexibility.
The TDP-SC35U is ostensibly a portable projector, weighing it at 8.6 pounds and measuring 14.5" W x 10.2" D x 3.9" H. It offers dual component inputs (via 15-pin mini D-sub connectors), one S-Video port and one composite (RCA) jack. For audio, it includes both a 1/8-inch stereo minijack and L/R RCA jacks. For connectivity, it also includes an RS232C port. For audio output, it includes a 1/8-inch stereo minijack. And for video output, it includes one component port (mini D-sub 15-pin).
Other features include:
- ±15 degree vertical keystone correction (manual);
- Support for NTSC, PAL, SECAM
- HDTV/DTV compatibility: 480p, 480i, 576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i;
- Projector Lens: Manual focus, manual zoom (1.2x);
- Projector throw: 4.1 feet to 34.5 feet;
- Projection size: 36 inches to 300 inches;
- Noise: 36 dB (33 dB in "low" mode);
- Camera resolution: 629,856 pixels "effective" (648 x 486 doubled);
- Camera focus: "Near" or "far" mode;
- Camera CCD: 4.2-inch single honeycomb CCD.
The new model is available now for $899 and includes a remote with batteries, a soft carrying case, power chord, RGB cable, user manual and CD-ROM.
