U. Washington Hosts Course on the World of Google

The University of Washington is hosting a course about Google.The course was designed by Google programmer Christophe Bisciglia, 26, a U. Wash alumn, during his "10 percent" time, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported. Google employees are encouraged to use 10 percent of their time on the job brainstorming creative ideas.
Fifteen students took the five-week course in its first iteration. Many young college graduates need extensive retraining when they are hired at Google because what they are taught in computer classes is out of date, Bisciglia told the Post-Intelligencer.
The Washington course, which may be extended to other schools, is designed to teach students about the "real world of computing." The story notes that Google isn't the only corporate presence on campus. Microsoft built the school's new $7.2 million computer science building, and Intel donated all of its computers.
