Michigan State Deploys Security Event Management

Michigan State University is deploying a security management system from CrossTec called Activeworx Security Center. The solution will be used in one of the university's principal data centers to compile and manage security-related data from a variety of third-party systems.Activeworx Security Center is a system that collects log files from network applications (firewalls, virus detection systems, vulnerability assessment tools) and places the information from the files into a single database, organizing security events for simplified analysis and for alerting security personnel about potential security threats.
Said Tim First, senior information technologist for Michigan State, "We were impressed by this product's features. Activeworx is a great time saver. If someone has a question about the system, we can go to one place instead of logging on to 15 different systems."
The university is also using the software to help ensure compliance with security regulations, according to CrossTec.
Michigan State University serves approximately 36,000 undergraduates and 10,000 graduate and professional students and employs more than 10,000 faculty, academic staff, and support staff. The 5,200-acre campus in East Lansing includes 660 buildings, 85 of which are used for instruction.
