U Missouri Expands E-Mail Infrastructure

University of Missouri recently revamped its Microsoft Exchange messaging environment with the help of EMC Corporation's products and services. According to EMC, the IT department at the university has reworked its infrastructure, allowing for a 500 percent increase in employees' mailbox quotas and 100 percent increase in students' mailbox quotas."University life today is characterized by online communication and collaboration," said Randy Wiemer, associate director of IT at the University of Missouri. "To accommodate dramatic growth and accelerate the business value of our Exchange environment, we worked with EMC Global Services' Microsoft experts to design and expanded information infrastructure with EMC solutions specifically for Exchange."
The university has implemented an information lifecycle management strategy "to automate the capture and movement of information across storage tiers," according to EMC. The strategy will speed up backup and recovery.
In addition, two new storage systems have been implemented into the university's information infrastructure for both as backup and production. According to EMC, the changes have decreased the amount of time spent on backups.
University of Missouri has more than 63,700 students enrolled with 16,457 on staff on its four campuses.
