Duke, UNC Invent Service-Oriented Architecture Game

IBM is using "serious game" technology developed by graduate students at Duke University and the University of North Carolina to help explain the concept of service-oriented architecture to potential customers.At its recent "Impact 2007" conference, IBM announced a system called Innov8--a 3D gaming environment aimed at teaching people the skills they need to deploy SOA and business process management programs.
Innov8 is a result of the annual IBM SOA case study competition among graduate students at Duke University and the University of North Carolina. The game, which can be played with a joystick, is set up as an action-mystery where players can visualize how an SOA impacts different parts of the organization. Together, users can literally see business processes, identify bottlenecks, and explore "what if" scenarios before SOA is deployed.
IBM said the game will remain in prototype mode until September, when it would be available to the public.
