Microsoft this weekend released an update to its System Center Operations Manager 2007, the company's infrastructure management solution. The final Service Pack 1 release has gone to manufacturing, and the update is also available for download online.
Microsoft said in a blog posting that the new version is designed to make SCOM 2007 easier to support, use, and deploy. It includes enhanced backup and recovery features, new export options, and several workflow improvements. Other new features in SCOM SP1 include:
Upgrades can be downloaded here. A 180-day evaluation version can be found here. It supports Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-Bit x86) and Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1. Microsoft is also rolling out new resources for its Operations Manager 2007 TechCenter, which are available here.

Cedarville University in southwestern Ohio has implemented SonicWALL firewalls to provide high-speed gateway firewall protection for its 3,000 students.
The alumni association for the University of North Dakota has gone public with a data breach that occurred when a laptop belonging to a software vendor was stolen from a vehicle. Administrators at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have gone public with their installation of open source database management software from Ingres. IIT Delhi, one of seven leading institutes of technology in India, adopted Ingres Database to support administration functions such as grading, finance, human resources, procurement, and hospital administration.
