Google Inc. announced the 20 winners of a scholarship it is funding to honor the memory of Anita Borg, a computer scientist who promoted science and engineering education for women. Ten of the winners, who were picked from more than 250 applications from students at 115 different universities across the country, will receive $10,000. Another 13 finalists will receive $1,000 each.

Portland State: U.S. News Giveth, Then Taketh Away

When U.S. News and World Report announced its annual college rankings recently, Portland State University was on the list as one of the top-10 electrical engineering schools in the United States. Students and faculty were ecstatic, for a couple of days anyway. That's the length of time it took for the magazine to realize that a computer glitch had incorrectly ranked the Portland State program in the top 10 instead of 126th, its actual rank.

Top Digitally Dedicated Community Colleges Recognized

The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) and the Center for Digital Education honored the top 30 most technology-aware community colleges in the country, according to a survey of administrators at 200 community colleges. They were asked a set of 24 multiple-choice questions and five written questions regarding technology services for students, faculty, and their host communities.
