AVerMedia Technologies has launched a new model in its Digital Presenter line of high-resolution document cameras for classroom presentations. The latest model, the AVerVision SPB370 Platform Visual Presenter, offers a 5 megapixel document/object camera and 1080p HD output coupled with networking capabilities.

Mitsubishi this week introduced a new high-end 1080p projector for the education market. The new 3LCD model, at just a hair under $10,000, is targeted toward larger school venues, such as auditoriums and lecture halls.

Villanova University in Pennsylvania has expanded its on campus use of the Rise Vision Display Network to create a networked, campus-wide information system. Villanova uses the digital signage content management system on 15 LCD screens, with plans to add another 30 screens, for displaying information about emergency notifications, campus events, and schedules, Villanova also sells advertising to local merchants that accept the school's Wildcard debit card.

School supply company Mead is taking the plunge into education technology with the launch of a new interactive whiteboard. Dubbed, appropriately enough, the Mead Interactive Whiteboard, the new model incorporates a 77-inch interactive projection screen, multimedia pen, mounting hardware, and software suite targeted toward education.

NEC this week debuted four new projectors targeted toward education applications, along with a new MultiSync LCD display. Promethean and Simtrol have announced an exclusive partnership that will integrate device management software from Simtrol with Promethean's Activeclassroom technology. The partnership will give classroom teachers the ability to control a variety of separate devices from a single interface on Promethean's Activeboard, doing away with the need for multiple remote controls.

A number of colleges have gone public with their deployments of the NComputing multiuser system, among them Fresno Pacific University in Central California, Florida Atlantic University in southeast Florida; and Palm Beach Community College in Florida. The NComputing access device allows a single PC to serve multiple users, each with his or her own monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

NEC this week introduced two new single-chip DLP projectors that it will ship in the fall. The NP41 and NP61 are both mobile models, weighing in at 3.5 pounds, but offering brightness ratings of up to 3,000 ANSI lumens.

Ohio State University in Columbus said it will be installing Smart Technologies products--including interactive whiteboards--in its Digital Union, a four-year-old leading-edge research and education facility. The Digital Union, a joint initiative between the Office of the CIO and the university libraries, offers a place for faculty and students to work with new education technology products in order to assess their potential for enhancing teaching and learning.

Sonic Foundry debuted a new version of its lecture capture platform Thursday at the InfoComm and EduComm conferences in Las Vegas. Mediasite 5.0 adds about 100 new or enhanced features for recording, playing back, and managing classroom recordings. The company also announced new hardware recorders for automated lecture capture, which are scheduled to ship next month.
