Pricey subscription journals will take another hit with news that Duke University has joined a group of kindred research institutions in signing a Compact for Open Access Publishing Equity (COPE). MoreAdobe has introduced Acrobat X Pro, the latest version of the company's document creation, portfolio, and collaboration tool for Mac OS X and Windows. MoreAutodesk has brought AutoCAD 2011 for Mac OS X to its Education Community, offering teachers and students about 90 percent off the full commercial version. The standard education edition of AutoCAD 2011 for Mac, which also began shipping this month, will continue to be free for education users. MoreFollowing up on a commitment made at the time it acquired the two companies, Blackboard has announced that Collaborate, its new collaborative learning suite that taps into technology from Elluminate and Wimba, will work with competing learning management systems. This will allow Collaborate to pull user, course, and enrollment data from the various LMSes. MoreBlackboard is expanding the parameters of its professional services beyond technical services and training. The company recently announced that it would offer its clients consulting help specifically in planning and deploying mobile solutions.
