Quinnipiac Laptop Requirement Comes with a Guarantee

All freshman entering Quinnipiac University this fall are required
to purchase a Dell Latitude D600 laptop for $1,725. But the system
comes not only bundled with Quinnipiac-specific software and
configured for use at the university; it has Computrace anti-theft
tracking software and a $1,000 guarantee to guard against losses.

MIT iCampus Outreach Program Offering Tools

MIT’s iCampus program has initiated a new dissemination effort to
encourage and support adoption of iCampus-developed educational
technologies. Those ready for the first phase of dissemination
include Robot World, Magic Paper, TEAL, XTutor, iMOAT, and iLabs.
The tools have been developed as part of a 5-year, $25 million
collaboration between MIT and Microsoft to develop sustainable
technology-enabled teaching models, tools, and Web services.

Walla Walla Cuts Paper from Student Records

Students and their advisors at Walla Walla College can now access
student records in real-time. Walla Walla is using eCopy ShareScan
and eCopy ShareScan OP to scan student records to the Web so that
there is no longer a need to duplicate and transport physical files
between different departments. The records department simply scans
the paper files and sends the electronic version of the documents
to a Web repository. The files are automatically created using a
specific naming convention.

50 Years of Computing at the Naval Postgraduate School

Not everyone understands that the roots of modern computing are in
military defense. Over the years, the school was the “first to move
from single-user machines to multi-access time-sharing, and the
first to provide free computer use to faculty and students.”

Alumni Herald Students in the “Learning Village”

At the University of Dayton, technology is bringing students, faculty,
and even alumni together in a collaborative and community-building
environment. As a component of the “Learning Village,” instructors
at UD have introduced students to Project L.E.A.P.
(Linking Education and Alumni Participation).
Students use Lotus Team Workplace to create online threaded
discussions to communicate with alumni in their fields of interests.
Alumni are able to share to real-world professional experiences and
act as virtual class speakers.

Live-In Techs at USC

At the University of Southern California, twenty-eight technologically-savvy
HTAs (Housing Technology Assistants) live in dorms and act like RAs,
only they handle techie issues, not personal issues. The response

College of Lake County Contracts SunGard Collegis

College of Lake County, a community college located north of Chicago,
has signed a contract with SunGard Collegis to help consolidate and
manage its information technology. SunGard Collegis will help the
college manage its entire technology environment, including
telecommunications, administrative applications, networks, academic
labs, distance learning, user services, and classroom technologies.
