Musical Chairs at IU

If you’re still confused about last month’s changes in IT leadership at Indiana University, we’re here to help. After an early signal this year of the president’s impending departure, Bloomington was officially charged to be IU’s “flagship” campus (complete with a new Provost position to lead it), and the 8-campus university got its biggest re-org in 35 years. Michael McRobbie, who had been serving as VP for IT, as well as CIO and VP for Research at IU, took up the Interim Provost spot at the Bloomington campus. McRobbie was appointed Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs-Bloomington. Brad Wheeler, an Associate Professor in the Kelley School of Business at IU, whose most recent titles included Associate VP for Community Source Initiatives and Dean for Information Technology, was then appointed Acting CIO for IU. Garland Elmore, an Associate Professor of Informatics and Communication who had been serving as Associate VP for Teaching and Learning Information Technologies and Dean for Information Technology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), was appointed Acting Deputy CIO for IU.
