Seton Hall to Deliver Class Notes to Student Cell Phones

Seton Hall University signed a deal to acquire a mobile communications system that will deliver class and school information directly to the mobile phones and e-mail addresses of students, instructors, and staff. During the summer, the university installed deltaTXT, a mobile system built by clearTXT Inc.

“We will use the technology to promote university events and to quickly communicate with our community if there is an emergency,” said Paul Fisher, director of the Teaching and Learning Technology Center at Seton Hall. He noted that the system will integrate with the school’s Blackboard campus management system to help “students stay connected with their instructors and student organizations using the technology they’re most comfortable with – the mobile phone.”

Maui Supercomputing Center Inks Largest Hardware Deal

The Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), an Air Force research lab managed by the University of Hawaii, announced its biggest hardware acquisition deal ever; an agreement with Dell Inc. to install a 5,120-processor, high-performance computing cluster using Dell servers. The new cluster for MHPCC, which focuses on complex computational problems for the government, is made up of 1,280 Dell PowerEdge 1955 blade servers with dual-core processors. The partners said that the servers will increase computational capability to more than 60 teraflops.
