Desire2Learn Unveils Business Continuity Services

Enterprise eLearning provider Desire2Learn is now offering Business Continuity Services to provide disaster recovery for hosted clients.

The strategy includes offsite data replication in four different areas and a set of failover conditions that can allow Desire2Learn to bring up an entire application at a secondary facility. John Baker, Desire2Learn’s president and CEO remarked, “Already we have seen a great response from our early adopters, as the service minimizes downtime in the event of a natural disaster. Our clients wanted an ‘always available’ system for their students, faculty, and administrators, and as a result, our Business Continuity Service will deliver meaningful, visible benefits to education.”

Blackwell Book Services and ebrary have collaborated on the development of ECHO, a new eContent hosted platform for libraries that draws on the strengths of both companies.

Blackwell, a 126-year-old bookseller that serves more than 15,000 academic, research, and special libraries in 120 countries through its offices in the UK, U.S., and Australia, has partnered with ebrary, an innovative and growing Silicon Valley-based provider of eContent services and technology, to aggregate a high-value eContent collection from leading publishers worldwide and offer it via a range of technology services. Andrew Hutchings, managing director of Blackwell Book Services-UK, explained, “By working together we will deliver to our customers a combination of excellent eBook solutions and the ability to select and order e-titles through services already tailored to integrate with the libraries’ own acquisitions workflows.” Notably, ECHO will provide the advantage of integrated research tools powered with ebrary’s unique InfoTools software.
