IT Key to Saudi Arabia 25-Year Strategy for Higher Ed

Saudi Arabia is preparing a 25-year strategy to map out its higher education system so that it can be "in tune with the country's development and job market requirements," the kingdom announced. Information technology will a central element of the plan.

The kingdom's Ministry of Education has picked the Research Institute at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) to present a study on a "futuristic and effective higher education plan."

"An important segment of the plan deals with specialized issues such as faculty, students and information technology," according to Muhammad Al Ouhali, the director of the project.

The prospectus for the study acknowledges a "serious need to create an effective system that utilizes information technology and communications, as well as the exchange of administrative information within the various components of higher educational faculties … in order to enhance decision-making processes …in the higher education system."
