Carnegie Mellon To Deploy NeXpose

Carnegie Mellon announced plans to deploy vulnerability management software from software developer Rapid7 for systems and networks at the university. The NeXpose software is designed to examine and analyze the cause of any problem.

"As we tested NeXpose, we found that the product's evolution mapped to our needs, which we attribute to Rapid7's responsiveness to our input as well as its experience in the higher education industry. We had the option of building our own vulnerability scanning system, but the opportunity to partner is much more important and mutually beneficial," said Mary Ann Blair, director of information security at Carnegie Mellon.

According to Rapid7, users may manipulate NeXpose programming to fit the needs of the institution and provide access control for groups and individual users on the network. Additional functions include:
  • Secure Web interface;
  • Creates and exports customized reports;
  • PCI compliance capabilities; and
  • Linux support.
