U Portland Deploys File-Sharing Software

The University of Portland recently deployed GroupDrive software from South River Technologies, a developer of file transfer and collaboration software, for online file sharing on its campus. The software will be used for student and faculty collaboration, as well as for the university's back office, and is designed to replace other forms of online file-sharing such as email, according to South River.
"GroupDrive's strengths are in its simplicity and precise functionality. It meets the need of the entire University white being secure and exceptionally easy to use," said Jenny Walsh, director of Web services at the University of Portland. "Across the University of Portland campus, we have seen an immediate acceptance of the technology."
In the classroom, the software can be used for student collaboration, and faculty can post class assignments and other information for students to access either with permission prompts or without. Researching academics can also send their findings back to the university using the software.
The University of Portland, located in Oregon, is a private catholic university with more than 3,200 students and 280 faculty.
