NEW INTELLIWORKS CEO. Intelliworks, a provider of constituent relationship management (CRM) solutions for higher ed, has appointed former Blackboard executive Todd Gibby as its new CEO. Dev Ganesan, who served as Intelliworks president and CEO, will now assume the role of company chairman; Gibby will work closely with Ganesan and the management team to launch Orion, a new on-demand CRM solution for higher ed institutions.

LEARNING CENTER VP. ERP provider Campus Management has promoted Viki Hucke-McCright to VP of the Learning Center. She will assume responsibility for the company’s education programs for its employees and end users, including product and industry certification programs. Hucke- McCright has been with Campus Management for more than 11 years, having held director-level roles in both product management and marketing.

Blackbaud's Timothy Chou

TO BLACKBAUD BOARD. Timothy Chou, former president of Oracle On Demand, has joined the board of directors at Blackbaud, a provider of software and services for nonprofit organizations. Chou is widely acknowledged as a pioneer in software on demand and recently launched the first class on SaaS (software as a service) at Stanford University (CA).

SLIPPERY ROCK U students now can make contactless payments via mobile phone.

PAYING BY PHONE. Heartland Payment Systems, a provider of payment processing and related services, has been selected by Slippery Rock University (PA) to enable contactless payments on campus by cell phone. This past July, the school’s 8,500 students, faculty, and staff received a new official campus ID card and a separate contactless token designed for use with their mobile phones. During the summer, campus vending machines, laundry facilities, photocopiers, and printers were outfitted with dual technology readers to enable contactless payments via mobile phone, in addition to the traditional ID card payments.

TWO-WAY SUPPORT. At the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, a two-way digital intercom system from Digital Acoustics has greatly reduced help desk response time. The IP-based solution, installed in 240 classrooms across the campus, allows Office of Classroom Support staff to take care of 90 to 95 percent of support calls without ever leaving their desks. GOOGLE TO ACQUIRE POSTINI. Google has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Postini, a provider of ondemand communications security and compliance solutions. Postini’s services (such as message security, archiving, encryption, and policy enforcement) can be used to protect an organization’s e-mail, IM, and other web-based communications.

DISPLAY TECH MERGER. Visual solutions provider Christie Digital Systems has acquired Vista Systems, a maker of video processing systems. The pairing creates a comprehensive source for image processing and projection solutions, combining Vista’s video switchers and real-time windowing and composition products with Christie’s projection systems.

ADDING ASSESSMENT TOOLS. Thomson Learning, a provider of customized learning solutions for higher ed, government agencies, corporations, and professionals, has acquired TrueOutcomes, a web-based provider of universal assessment tools. Thomson Learning will develop the core functions of TrueOutcomes to provide higher ed faculty, administrators, and students with ready access to data that demonstrate how student learning objectives and desired outcomes are being met at the course, program, and/or institutional level.
