The University of Arizona named Sylvia Johnson, an attorney working in its Office of the General Counsel, as the university's first information security officer.
Michele Norin, the UA's chief information officer, and Judith Leonard, vice president of legal affairs and general counsel, said Johnson would have a broad charter as the school's senior advisor on information security issues.
Johnson's duties will include "developing policies, procedures, and guidelines with consideration of relevant legislation; providing guidance and direction to the campus to assure compliance with security standards and appropriate policies; monitoring and informing the campus about information security trends and the potential impacts; [and] defining appropriate compliance and enforcement procedures as needed," they said in an announcement.
