Campus Computing Infrastructure Spending To Reach $5.9 Bil. By 2010

The infrastructure computing market is composed of technologies that support the collection and interconnection of computer, voice, video, and data, including the security and storage of information. This market includes computing devices such as PCs, thin client terminals, and handheld computing devices; networking infrastructure; and other professional services that support institutions' data center and network initiatives.

According to Eduventures, investments in networks and data security continue to be priorities for higher education institutions, with increased investment in wired and wireless networks. Campus wireless network adoption continues to broaden its reach, as campuses integrate mobile computing into their teaching and learning strategies. Additionally, institutions are experiencing increasing requirements for high-bandwidth networks to support video, Web collaboration, and distance learning, resulting in growing use of outside consultants to provide skills needed to support institutions' IT infrastructure.
