Cisco Purchases DiviTech, Enhances Video-Delivery Offerings

Networking giant Cisco announced plans last week to purchase Denmark-based DiviTech A/S. The company, specializing in digital-service management (DSM) solutions, helps a variety of service providers create, modify, and manage video networks.

The acquisition of DiviTech will enhance Cisco's current video-delivery strategy, and will include the integration of DiviTech's DSM product with Cisco's ROSA network- and element-management solution. The marriage of the two systems will create and end-to-end platform, offering all layers of digital-video management in a singular modular product.

"DiviTech provides Cisco with a core team of some of the most talented engineers in the DSM market," said Dean Rockwell, vice president and general manager of the Digital Media business unit in Cisco's Service Provider Video Technology Group, in a statement released Tuesday. "DiviTech's DSM platform will serve as the foundation for Cisco's continued leadership in next-generation management tools and applications for complex video networks."

The acquisition of DiviTech is expected to close in Cisco's fourth quarter of fiscal year 2008. Once finalized, Cisco plans to integrate DiviTech into the company's Digital Media business unit as a part of the Service Provider Video Technology Group. The purchase of DiviTech will mark the 128th acquisition by Cisco.
