Embry-Riddle Switches to Mirapoint E-mail, Cuts Administrative Overhead

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has deployed the Mirapoint Message Server from Mirapoint Software, supporting 65,000 student e-mail accounts. The university chose the system to augment the Microsoft Exchange platform currently used by faculty and staff.

Through the hybrid deployment, Embry-Riddle will gain a greater level of manageability, flexibility, and scalability, while at the same time reducing administrative costs associated with the old system, according to the school.

"We looked at several scenarios and vendors and all things considered, Mirapoint was the best fit for our environment," said Cindy Bixler, chief information officer, Embry-Riddle, in a statement released this week. "There is constant churn within our student population. Keeping up with the accounts and managing them effectively was proving a significant resource drain and we were not able to address escalating capacity demands. With Mirapoint in place, we improve utilization of our IT resources and budgets and better serve the needs of our students."

Assisted by Mirapoint professional services, the university completed the migration in a single weekend, without any disruptions to student accounts, according to Mirapoint.
