North Seattle CC Adds Plato Online Algebra Course to Math Formula

North Seattle Community College (NSCC) will be adopting Plato Learning's newest online software for post-secondary--Academic Systems Algebra--to support the college's developmental mathematics courses. The math series covers the principles of algebra in a self-paced online format. Since spring 2008, NSCC has utilized Academic Systems Algebra to instruct 200 students enrolled in basic, elementary, and intermediate algebra courses.

"We are thrilled with the possibilities that the Academic Systems Algebra solution affords us," said Denise Brannan, mathematics instructor. "It was time to upgrade our capabilities, and our new computer-based and distance learning programs provide our students the flexibility to take lecture or online-courses, enroll full- or part-time, and excel at their own pace. As a result, our students are succeeding in ways they were previously unable."

NSCC has been using Plato products for a decade. "The students we have at our school are here because they want to grow," Brannan said. "Our developmental math programs provide students with multiple opportunities to build the foundational mathematics skills they need to persist and succeed in more advanced courses."
