SmoothWall Develops Security Appliances for Smaller Networks

Internet security vendor SmoothWall has launched two new unified threat management (UTM) hardware appliances, the 100 and 300 Series, designed for small and medium sized organizations.

The new boxes provide a firewall combined with an intrusion detection system and anti-virus and e-mail security. Add-on features include advanced Web filtering, anti-spam, and bandwidth management. Pricing starts at just over $2,000.

The company, which produces the Guardian Web Filter, introduced its first hardware-based UTM appliance, the UTM-1000, in 2007. The latest releases are intended for environments with networks that have fewer than 500 users.
