e2Campus Provides Twitter Integration in Emergency Notification System

Omnilert has integrated its e2Campus emergency notification system with Twitter. This enables e2Campus clients to push e2Campus alerts automatically and simultaneously to their schools' Twitter accounts without having to log in to their Twitter account separately. Students who follow their school's Twitter would then receive alerts through Twitter, even though they may not have signed up to receive the e2Campus alerts.

"Using technology that is most relevant to your students is the best way to reach them quickly," said Nick Gustavsson, Omnilert's CTO. "All the school has to do is add the free Twitter utility to their e2Campus account and then publish their Twitter name so students can follow it to receive alerts."

Twitter is a free communication service that allows users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length. Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. The sender can restrict delivery to those in his or her circle of friends (delivery to everyone being the default). Users can receive updates via the Twitter Web site, SMS, RSS, or e-mail or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.
