Laundry Gets High-tech Spin at Nine Campuses

Residents at nine universities can now check washer and dryer availability from the Web with installations of eSuds to their dorm laundry facilities. eSuds enables students to check machine availability and the status of their laundry over the Internet. They can also pay for the wash and dry cycles with their student ID cards or debit or credit cards. Users automatically receive an e-mail, page, or wireless message when the wash and dry cycles are complete.

The service allows operators to track usage and sales by machine online with reports of usage and daily diagnostics. eSuds is compatible with Maytag equipment and integrates with the Blackboard Transaction System.

USA Technologies, which allows visitors to its Web site to view laundry status at a number of its clients' facilities, said 59 campuses are signed up for the service. When the latest installations are completed, the company will have about 7,000 appliances connected to eSuds in 700 laundry rooms.

The latest campuses installing eSuds include Georgia State University in Atlanta, Michigan State University in East Lansing, and Lee University in Cleveland, OH.
