U Rhode Moves from Analog Video to IP-Based App from Verint Systems

The University of Rhode Island has implemented video management software from Verint Video Intelligence Solutions to support its security operations. The university will be using Nextiva Networked IP Video Management and Nextiva S1708e 8-channel encoders at its main campus in Kingston to monitor parking lots, buildings, walkways, and restricted areas.

The software includes a rules-based management engine for policy-based event notification, video distribution, and process activation. It can monitor for specific activities on camera and notify appropriate people for follow-up.

"In order to keep pace with our growth and increasing traffic volume--and to align with our security strategy--which includes equipping the university with the best in high-caliber, reliable technology--we selected the Verint Nextiva platform," said Paul Perrone, senior information technologist. "We partnered with Verint based on extensive research and the fact that it was the only organization with an open and reliable solution that could both meet our needs now and into the future--all without putting a strain on our existing resources."

The institution, with 16,000 students, selected the IP-based technology to replace a legacy analog security system.
