Jordan University Launches Aruba Academy

The German-Jordanian University (GJU) in Amman, Jordan will be offering a career development program to teach students how to work with Aruba Networks wireless and mobility technology. This will be the first Aruba Academy Partner in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan--and one of the first in the world.

"Students who graduate from university with an in-depth understanding of mobility solutions and how they can be applied will have a competitive advantage in today's job market," said Labib Khadra, president of the university. "The Aruba Academy allows us to prepare students for the job market by offering cutting-edge information and communication technology-related educational programs. By the time they graduate, our students will have both a breadth of knowledge across a wide range of subjects and a depth of practical technical expertise second to none in the region."

The university has about 1,500 local and international students at its temporary campus in Amman. GJU will soon move to a permanent campus in Madaba that will accommodate 5,000 students.

"The Aruba Academy was created to train university students on the technical underpinnings of mobile connectivity, a fast growing market in virtually every corner of the globe," said Ammar Enaya, regional director of Aruba Middle East and North Africa. "Familiarity with this incredibly powerful tool will make students more attractive to employers, and well positioned to move into management positions in the increasingly important mobility industry."

An Aruba Networks spokesman said the company was rolling out the program slowly, starting internationally, while it learns how to address the wide range of interests and needs of both institutions of higher learning and trade schools. "Under the program we deliver semester-length courses, using Aruba-developed courseware provided at no cost and with a license to modify it as needed," said Michael Tennefoss. He said the program focuses on wireless networking, network security, remote networking, and network management. Schools receive required Aruba equipment at a discount. Course instructors need to be certified under the company's Certified Instructor and Certified Mobility Professional programs and must have passed an instructor proficiency exam.
