WireHead Security Launches Online Community with Tools

Professional services firm WireHead Security has introduced a new online resource for security professionals that combines community and social networking aspects with managed services. Membership to Infosec Island is free, but the company charges for premium services.

The first premium service encrypts sensitive records and documents to let users share them safely via the web. This service, IslandPKI, which costs a flat $25 per user per month, was a joint development effort between WireHead Security and Media Sourcery. According to WireHead, IslandPKI makes it easy, quick, and simple for IT staff to help non-technical users within their organizations to safely and securely share these records and documents. Next up, a highly secure message/file transfer service that is expected to be released later this year.

Infosec Island members also get free utilities. Current offerings include a DNS Security Tool that allows members to check their name servers for common configuration errors and an SSL Certificate Checker Tool from SSLLabs that allows members to likewise check their SSL certificates for errors.

"Time is money. As IT professionals, we know how important it is to have the right information at your fingertips when you need it most," said Jeff Howlett, CIO of Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. "Infosec Island attracts us as members because saving time reduces the cost of guarding against security threats and makes our security efforts more successful. By improving the efficiency and effectiveness of preventative measures, over the long run Infosec Island will help us to lower our exposure to security risks."
