Brigham Young U Gets Infusion of Network Switches

Provo, UT-based Brigham Young University has received a donation of $110,000 worth of Brocade FastIron WS Series and Edge X Series network switches from Red Sky IT Solutions. The network switches will replace outdated equipment in the classroom labs of Fulton College of Engineering and Technology as well as within the university's network infrastructure.

The Brocade FastIron WS Series switches are entry-level enterprise campus switches that provide power-over-Ethernet for voice over IP and management features for optimizing the network's performance. The Brocade FastIron Edge X Series switches are data center-class switches that provide Gigabit copper and fiber-optic connectivity and 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks.

"We are honored and grateful to Red Sky for this tremendous donation," said Joe Eckstrom, associate professor. "This cutting-edge technology will substantially improve the performance of our network, and having fast and reliable equipment will enhance the learning experience for our students."

The company, which has its headquarters in the Salt Lake City metropolitan region, said its donation of Brocade equipment is the first of several initiatives in Red Sky's support for the university. It is also developing a fellowship program for Fulton College that is expected to be in place in fall 2010.
