TopSchool Releases Web Services for Application Integration

TopSchool has begun rolling out a set of Web services that allows its customers to extend the functionality of the company's student lifecycle management applications. The new set of services, named TopX, uses the TopSchool system as a central "hub" for maintaining student data but provides a way for institutions to integrate that system with other applications.

Currently, TopX is available through the company's admissions module, where it's being used for landing pages and communication with third-party lead aggregators. For example, when a student prospect enters information on a landing page or is aggregated by the lead provider, the data can be routed automatically by the TopSchool system to an admissions representative based on specific rules set up by the institution.

Over the course of 2010, the company will make TopX available for all modules in its suite of applications, including enrollment, academics, financial management, and placement, according to TopSchool.

"We have built a core suite to manage student information and our open architecture allows a school to leverage the unique systems that make the most sense for its organization," said Matthew Schnittman, president and CEO. "Instead of limiting an institution's opportunities like some closed legacy systems on the market, or even charging for APIs, we want to make it as easy as possible for a school to integrate with best of breed partners and custom applications."
