Benedict College Shifts Course Management for Online and On Campus Classes

Benedict College in Columbia, SC has moved to a new learning management system, Edvance360, from a company with the same name.

The college piloted the program in a few courses, and the students and faculty involved in that testing "overwhelmingly" requested a switch from its implementation of Blackboard to the new platform, according to faculty trainer Scott Blanks. Implementation was completed in time for the fall 2010 semester.

The system, formerly named Scholar360, is being used for on campus, online, and hybrid courses.

Blanks said the users found the application, which includes social learning tools and a secure social network, "extremely user-friendly. The students particularly enjoyed the networking aspects of the platform." He added that faculty were "quite relieved" at the ease in which courses were created and maintained. "They found Edvance360 to allow them greater access to the students, increased course participation, and as a result, a higher student success rate."
