Tutor.com Publishes Free Study Resources App

A company that provides online tutoring services has released a free app for iOS devices that includes access to a library of homework resources. Tutor.com has announced Tutor.com To Go. This first generation of the company's mobile app offers users access to its collection of lessons, worksheets, videos, and test-preparation resources. Tutor.com said that in 2011 it will add the ability for students to connect to an online tutor for a homework review session from their device and will develop apps for additional mobile devices in the future.

The company's flagship service, online tutoring, connects the student to a tutor for real-time help in math, science, English, and social studies. The free study app is useful for students in K-12 or introductory college courses. The student selects a subject and topic or searches by keyword to find the resources he or she needs. Materials are rated by the community of users.

Although no account is required for using the current app, Tutor.com subscribers who do have an account can use the app now to take pictures of homework problems and store them in their mobile locker until they're ready to work with a tutor. Subscribers can also review previous online tutoring sessions. Monthly online tutoring plans start at about $35 for an hour of tutoring service per month. The company estimates that the typical tutoring session is 25 minutes long.

Tutor.com has been adopted by East Baton Rouge Parish School District in Louisiana and Killeen Independent School District in Texas to help specific groups of students.
