The Sur40 40-inch touch panel system can sense 50 inputs simultaneously.

At the 20ll International CES conference being held this week in Las Vegas, NV, Microsoft and Samsung debuted the product of a joint venture, a large screen touch computer with the ability to recognize more than 50 touch inputs simultaneously.

The new touch panel system, dubbed the Samsung SUR40, uses Microsoft Surface Software, built in computer hardware, and a 40-inch Samsung LCD panel to take advantage of PixelSense, a technology that allows and LCD screen to sense objects without the use of a camera.

The Samsung SUR40's LCD panel is 4 inches thick and offers a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080. It's built around an AMD Athlon II X2 dual-core 2.9 GHz processor and a Radeon HD 6700M series graphics processing unit.

Microsoft Surface software gives the SUR40 quick controls, customization options, and the ability to recognize hands, fingers, and other objects in contact with the screen.

The SUR40 is expected to ship later this year for $7,600.

Samsung will be displaying its technologies in central booth 12006 and north hall meeting rooms N116 through N228. Microsoft will be displaying its technologies in Tuscona booths 3607, 3608, 3806, Venetian booths 32105, 32140, and booth 7144.
