New Genetec Apps Bring Security Control to Mobile Devices

Genetec has released a mobile app that lets authorized users monitor and control aspects of their security systems. The Security Center Mobile app works on Blackberry and Apple iPhone and iPad devices. It allows the user to receive security alarms and push notifications, monitor live video, control pan-tilt-zoom cameras, view door status information, and unlock doors.

The app works with the Security Center, which provides an integrated application for managing video surveillance, access control systems, and other security measures from a console. The mobile set-up also requires the Security Center Mobile Server to be installed. The latter transcodes incoming video and streams video feeds and pushes events and alarms to users equipped with a mobile device. Those armed with an iPad, the company said, can view up to six simultaneous video feeds.

Apple device users can download the mobile app from Apple's App Store. For BlackBerry devices, the user can download and installed the app from a workstation over a USB connection, from an organization's Web site, or from BlackBerry's AppWorld market. IT departments can also push the mobile app through their BlackBerry Enterprise Server to simplify installation and future upgrade of the app.
