Gefen Rolls Out HDMI Scaler

The Gefen ToolBox HD 1080p Scaler can downscale HDMI signals, or upscale them to 1080p.

Gefen has released an AV scaler that preserves high resolutions on multiple display systems with varying maximum resolutions by downscaling input signals sent to the HD monitor with the lowest native resolution. This ability allows the system's input signal to be set to a higher resolution by eliminating the need to downscale the primary signal to a resolution that matches the native resolution of the lowest HD display.

In addition to its downscaling capabilities, the new unit, dubbed the Gefen ToolBox HD 1080p Scaler, has the ability to scale HDMI signals upward, matching native resolutions as high as 1080p-3.

The unit automatically scales a single HDMI signal to match the native resolution of a single monitor through coaxial cable, fiber, or the HDMI standard. Input resolutions can also be manually adjusted.

For processing audio signals, the scaler offers 3D noise reduction, digital audio delay, and support for audio standards that include Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital AC3, DTS Digital Surround, DTS-HD-MA, and 8 channel LPCM.

Other features include RS-232 control, dual scaling engines, automatic 3:2 pull-down, standby mode, and an infrared extender.

White and black versions of the Gefen ToolBox HD 1080p Scaler can be pre-ordered from Gefen for $329.
